29 weeks – 5/14/2013

How far along?: 29 weeks
Due Date: July 30, 2013
Baby is the size of an?: acorn squash
Maternity Clothes: bought a black dress from Target for Graduation festivities
Baby Purchases: an old friend of mine gave us 6 boxes full of baby boy clothes ranging from preemie to 6 months!  So baby boy has a full closet full of clothes 🙂
Sleep: GREAT!  Brett and I bought a king sized bed which is so nice.  No more arguing over bed space.
Symptoms: some leg cramps at night.
Miss Anything?: DONUTS!! and sprinkles
Movement: He still squirms and flips the most at night and early morning. During the day, he generally sleeps.
Food cravings: I want anything I can’t have – sugar, bread, pasta 😉
Mood: Happy!!
Rings: Wearing a larger ring
Belly Button: out-ish
Gender:  Baby BOY!!
Pregnancy Workout: packing/unpacking, house projects, and some after meal walks.
Pregnancy Pet Peeve: people telling me “you are about to pop” – nooo actually I have two more months…
Pregnancy Updates: Still have gestational diabetes 😉 – I haven’t been put on insulin yet.  I’m trying to manage it by eliminating all carbs which for the most part has been working.  (except when Chick-fil-a gives me regular lemonade instead of diet….I CAN’T TELL THE DIFFERENCE!!)  So far so good, I’m hoping I can at least keep it managed enough to only have to take oral insulin…and avoid insulin shots. Best Moment this Week: Had a great Mother’s Day!  My parents came to Durham to help with our new place.  I got a new beautiful washer and dryer and my mom helped paint my kitchen cabinets a pretty cream color.  Also, hung up the pregnancy countdown chalkboard in Baby Boy’s room!

Looking forward to: Brett’s graduating from Med School tomorrow!!! It’s been a long 4 years but he has worked so hard and I’m so proud of him!!

Also, on Monday Brett’s parents will be helping to move us out completely from our Charlottesville place.  So by next week we will be completely in NC (still in boxes and storage buildings…but completely in NC 🙂 )
BabyCenter Update: Your baby is growing rapidly now. This week he weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is getting bigger to accommodate his growing brain – which is busy developing billions of neurons. Every day, about 200 milligrams of calcium is deposited in your baby’s skeleton, which is now hardening. With this rapid growth, it’s no surprise that your baby’s nutritional needs reach their peak during this trimester.

Today was bittersweet…

3 years ago I couldn’t imagine my life in Charlottesville, VA.  I was about to graduate UGA with my Masters in Accounting and I hadn’t yet found a new job in my new home.  Also, Virginia = North.  I’d been here on visits and I knew…you will not find sweet tea in every restaurant, nor does the grocery store sell every flavor of instant grits.

Who knew that three short years later I would be leaving my work family.  I was certainly blessed on 9/29/2010 when Brett called me to remind me of the career fair that was being held at John Paul Jones. I remember that I had been losing hope of finding my perfect job at this point.  Brett told me that he’d seen online that their was a place called MoneyWise hiring – and that had to mean that they needed an accountant :).  So on an icky and rainy day, I dressed in my Ann Taylor black suit and headed to John Paul Jones – with my pink striped Victoria Secret umbrella in tow.

Turns out and as you might already know – I’m am not one to easily sell myself at career fairs – I walked around the fair aimlessly looking for a business that might appeal to me.  Then in the middle aisle, I saw the MoneyWise table!! and there sat Jaclyn talking to some lady about a bookkeeping job (and in all honestly I don’t think the lady even knew what bookkeeping was…).  So I waited in line to talk to her.  Couldn’t believe my luck!?!? She was around my age, her husband was in med school like Brett…the same year!  And MoneyWise (BRFE) was hiring for someone like me!

That day ended up being the beginning of a wonderful job experience.  I can’t say that every day was wonderful but I had the opportunity to come to work every day and sit next to who would become my best friend.  To learned that some people are just awful while others will be the most amazing, understanding, and compassionate people in the world.  I learned my weaknesses and my strengths and I was accepted and loved for both.

I got to be a work with some pretty awesome people…;)

Kate…the most selfless and wacky person I know!  Who made me feel welcome from my first day at work when she called me “darlin”

Caitlin who since October has become like a little sister to me – one of the first times I get to be the more mature person in a friendship :).  She’s always on board (if not the ring leader) of a plot to dress up or goof around.  Her youthful spirit is infectious!

Megan who is one of the hardest workers I know!  And is always there to talk “country” with me. Nothing like talking about mayo on an egg sandwich and biscuits and gravy.

I have also had the most wonderful bosses a girl could ask for.  More friends and mentors even than bosses.  They genuinely inspired respect in the way they treated their employees.  MoneyWise is a wonderful family while at times dysfunctional, always amazing and supportive.

During my time in C-ville, I learned to eat more veggies 🙂

IMG_0378And I married the most wonderful man in the world -and my best friend

We got a crazy puppy…

and I met a lifelong friend – who “is my match in every way” (haha, quote from my favorite movie, Ever After).  And a ‘niece’, Clara, that I love so much and have  many adorable memories with (nothing like baby hiccups and throw up to make you love someone)

IMG_0879IMG_0544photo (7)So today was the last day at work-for the past 2 and a half years we’ve seen each other on almost ever Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  However, I’m excited about where this new journey will take us all and (as corny as it sounds) distance only makes our time together that much more special.   I’m already excited about all the trips to see each other and soon we will be able to have play dates as well!

Monday we move to North Carolina and start our life there.  I am thrilled!  My husband is the smartest-most-wonderful person in the world and I am so proud of him and his accomplishments.  He is the most driven person I know and I admire his sense of character.  He is an amazing man and is going to do amazing things at UNC.  We are going to have a dream house and begin our small family.  So I know this new adventure is going to be just as fantastic as the last.

27 weeks - 4/30/13

27 weeks – 4/30/13

How far along?: 27 weeks
Due Date: July 30, 2013
Baby is the size of a?: head of cauliflower
Maternity Clothes: I got my stuff from Motherhood Maternity using a gift card from Christmas!  – two super cute tshirts – a pair of teal shorts – a grey tank top – a dress for Brett’s graduation – and some bras 😉
Baby Purchases: I got a gift from a co-worker today!  Blankets, bibs, onesies, and hooded towels – so sweet of her.  Also, got a gift on loan 😉 a baby sleeper from Jaclyn.  It’ll be like the sisterhood of the traveling pants – except a baby sleeper (we will all use it until baby no longer fits – then on to the next person)
Sleep: good when Brett and I can get comfy on the bed.  With his bad elbow and my increasing size – that is not always the case – Yay for getting a king size mattress soon!!  One of many things to be excited about.
Symptoms: High blood sugar 😉
Miss Anything?: Sugar/Carbs
Movement: He is starting to move more during the day – never on command though
Food cravings: coleslaw/sweet tea
Mood: Happy/Excited
Rings: Wearing a larger ring
Belly Button: in and out
Gender:  Baby BOY!!
Pregnancy Workout: after meal walks
Pregnancy Pet Peeve: this hasn’t happened to me yet but I see people doing it to other pregnant people…you eat wonderfully but occasionally splurge on something like dessert and people tell you “you need to eat better for the health of the baby”
Pregnancy Updates: Had a doctors appointment today – they said my blood sugar was running pretty high still even with my low carb diet so now i’m trying to cut out 90% of carbs…if not 100%.  We have another doctors appointment in a week or so to see if I can get it down by eliminating carbs…otherwise I get insulin.  They are pretty sure that insulin will happen.
On a funnier note – during my doctors appointment the fire alarm went off – we were evacuated from the building.  We had to wait for 15 minutes while the fire department came.  Soon after we were allowed back in!  After my appointment was over…we learned Brett’s truck battery died 🙂  Adventurous morning.

Best Moment this Week: Finding out that my current employer is definitely keeping me on part time/long distance from NC.  I love the people I work with and I’m beyond excited to get the chance to continue my relationship with them.  I also love them for giving me the opportunity to work from home part time so I can stay home with my little baby boy.
Also got to hang out with my favorite baby girl today – during the day!! So she wasn’t sleepy or grumpy 😉  She liked my bracelet…and my hair.

Clara and Auntie Lacie

Looking forward to: getting the keys to our new house!  And everything that comes after that.  Also, can’t wait for my June baby showers!
BabyCenter Update: Baby’s now the size of rutabaga!
Baby’s lungs are going through some major developments these days, which (combined with the opening of previously plugged nostrils) means he’s now able to practice inhaling and exhaling. The lack of air in your womb means every “breath” is filled with amniotic fluid, but hey — it’s progress..
